Job Function

To assist the Workstream (WS) lead for Transportation, Working Group leads and the Vice President, Strategy and Policy by managing the day to day activities of the Workstreams and Task Forces, playing a pivotal role in driving the agenda of the Workstreams and Task Forces whilst ensuring close collaboration with other Workstreams through the Strategy and Policy team and OGCI Climate Investments to align strategy and actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the definition of the Transportation Workstream strategy
  • Prepare the annual work program and ensure its delivery across all Member Companies
  • Communication and Outreach
  • Knowledge Management
  • Collaborate and support the Carbon Intensity Task Force on a part-time basis

Strategic Execution of the Workstream Mission

  • To assist the Workstream lead, Working Group leads and the Vice President, Strategy and Policy in defining the Transportation Workstream strategy and work program
  • To develop and deliver the Transportation Workstream’s ambition, preparing the annual work program, market insight, external policy view, commitments, tender preparation and process and to ensure smooth delivery across all Member Companies
  • To create clear direction and sense of purpose for the Workstream activities in support of the strategic vision to develop white papers, position statements and presentation material
  • To be the focal point for all OGCI Transport related matters

Coordination and Planning

  • To support the OGCI Transportation Workstream to drive the delivery of the Transportation Workstream priorities, under the leadership of the Workstream lead and the Vice President, Strategy and Policy
  • To create connections across the OGCI member organizations and build strong trust-based relationships
  • To be accountable for the planning, organization and facilitation of monthly Transportation Workstream meetings/virtual meetings and calls, producing and circulating meeting agendas and minutes
  • To be accountable for the planning, organization, and facilitation of any extra sub working group needed to deliver the workplan (as of today, the Transportation Workstream has 3 sub-working groups, related to Low Carbon Fuels, Hydrogen and Closing the Carbon Cycle)

Communication and Outreach

  • To identify opportunities for engagements and track engagement connection lines
  • To create and nurture relationships with key stakeholders
  • To coordinate meetings to introduce the OGCI mission and the Workstream strategy and vision e.g. with institutions, universities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
  • To identify opportunities for communication & outreach, organized by OGCI or by external stakeholders
  • To liaise with the Vice President, Strategic Marketing and Communications when a plan is agreed to deliver the above events
  • To represent the OGCI Transportation Workstream at various international external events and with external stakeholders in close coordination with the Transportation Workstream lead and the Vice President, Strategy and Policy
  • To prepare briefing notes for the Strategy and Policy team as well as external speeches and presentations

Knowledge Development and Sharing

  • To build internal capability by mentoring and supporting colleagues in the OGCI and Member Companies, encouraging the sharing of knowledge and expertise
  • To identify and pursue continuous self-development through training and work experience
  • To maintain a shared documentation database for Transportation Workstream members, including minutes of various meetings, reports and useful literature sources
  • To guarantee a continuous high level of knowledge of the science and regulations on climate change from main data sources (e.g. World Economic Outlook, International Energy Agency, Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change, World Bank (CPLC), Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), etc.) and other interesting data providers (Climate Action Tracker, Climate analytics, New climate economy, etc.) relative to Transport
  • To take leadership in information sharing, notably using the Transport Newsletter, with the Member Companies, OGCI Climate Investments and any other internal stakeholders

Collaboration and Support

  • On a limited and part time basis, to support to the Carbon Intensity Task Force Programme Manager and identify opportunities for cross-fertilization and knowledge sharing

Education and Professional Qualifications Required

  • Degree in energy sector relevant topic (e.g. engineering)

Experience and Technical Competencies

  • Previous experience of working in transportation
  • Technical command of the Transport value chain
  • GHG and climate agenda/policy knowledge, affecting Transport in particular
  • Working knowledge of technical and policy/regulatory issues in the low-carbon economy
  • Developed network of contacts within industrial, academic and research institutions in Transport
  • Technical competency of energy & transportation systems
  • Strong competencies and interest in the required energy transition and low carbon economy due to efforts to avoid predicted climate change, from a technical and policy perspective is essential
  • Knowledge of the wider scope of carbon intensity of the oil & gas value chain (methodologies, technologies, practices, etc.) with emphasis on fuel production, fuel chemistry and end use is required
  • Knowledge of the climate institutions map, the climate agenda and the critical milestones is essential
  • Knowledge in one or more transport relevant decarbonization technologies including hydrogen, synthetic fuels, biofuels, vehicle/engine efficiency, etc

Behavioural Competencies and Special Aptitudes

  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to synthesize technical documents into easily readable executive summary documentation
  • Proven ability to write and articulate well in English
  • Strong communications skills with experience in public speaking is desirable
  • Good time management skills
  • Well-developed diplomacy skills with the ability to balance the demands of different stakeholders and drive consensus
  • Ability to work with high levels of complexity and adapt to a fast-evolving environment
  • Reliable, positive, hardworking and able to thrive in a challenging environment and work effectively with minimal guidance
  • Appetite to learn and to become familiar with new topics

Additional Information

  • Position is based in London
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK is essential
  • The role will involve domestic and international travel as required
  • The role may require additional hours to be worked above the normal working hours where necessary to meet business requirements with no additional payment for overtime
